Mack Hamon Hendershot
Mack Hendershot, age 92, of Lovington, NM passed away on November 27, 2017. Mack was born on December 23, 1924, in Strong City, Oklahoma to Clara and George Dewey Hendershot. He grew up and received his education in Melrose, NM. He graduated from Melrose High School and married his sweetheart Merline Myers in June, 1944. They had three children: Richard, Roger, and Ronald.
He was a veteran marine and was stationed in Guam in WWII.
In Melrose, Mack pursued many opportunities. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, Masonic Lodge, and County Commissioner, owned and managed the hardware store, and was a businessman and a cowman. His love was for cattle, ranching and he centered his life on the world of cattle. He not only had his own cattle but was beneficial to those all around in selling and buying their own stock.
In 1975, Mack and Merline purchased the Lea County Livestock where he continued his love as a cattleman; they operated the sale barn until 1994. They retired in Lovington. Mack was the owner and manager to the sale barn for over twenty years. His family and friends have many cherished memories of the sale barn and Mack, and are blessed to share this life with him…and do not forget Mack’s Jersey Bulls. Survivors include his sister Betty Boydston (Johnny) of New Braunfels, TX, son Richard Hendershot (Nora) of Clovis, his sister-in-law Betty Burleson of Portales. His grandchildren are: Cyndy, Scott (Christopher), Brian, Keith (Chris), Christie (Chance), and Chelsey Ragan. His great-grandchildren Kimber Abernathy and Madison Ragan. In addition his nieces and nephews include Beverly (Dan), Sheryl (Don), Linda (John), Traci (Ron), and John.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Merline, two youngest sons Roger and Ronald, and his parents George and Clara Hendershot.
A memorial service will be held on December 9th, 2017 at the Cowboy Junction Church at 10 am.
A private family grave service will be held at a later time in Melrose, NM.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
