Lonnie Lee Jennings

Mr. Jennings was born in Amarillo, Texas on December 19, 1948. Lonnie passed peacefully straight into the arms of Jesus surrounded by family at his home on April 28, 2018 in Lovington, New Mexico. Lonnie married Mary Burrows Holmes, his beloved wife, on September 26, 1987 and they blended their families of five sons and a daughter.

Lonnie held his family in high esteem; loving them with all his heart. His favorite times were on the patio with family and friends; Lonnie was a grand story teller making him a great host and entertainer. He loved God with all his heart, was a humble man and did not believe in being idle. He kept his hands busy; tending his garden with great care and loved fixing things for other people after his retirement. Lonnie loved boating and fishing; the family has many great memories and stories of spending time on the water with him. Lonnie had a very special relationship with his eldest grandson, Blaine Starkey; both being avid Dallas Cowboy’s fans, sharing so many things in common and pulling jokes on each other.
As a young man, he was quite the adventurer; hopping freight trains to travel to California and exploring the country as a truck driver. Lonnie spent the last 50 years of his life in Lovington and had a successful career as a top notch heavy duty diesel mechanic for a number of different companies.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Mary Jennings of the home. His children: Jessica Clayton and Brad of Lovington, NM, Pete Jennings of The Woodlands, TX, Aaron Holmes and Jessica of Nixa, MO; daughter-in-law Charlene Holmes of Lovington, NM; his brother Terry Jennings and Debbie of Amarillo, TX, Keith Keller of Arvada, CO, brother and sister-in-laws Mike Crawford and Vickey of Tatum, NM, Lynn Burrows and Celia of Wasilla, AK; sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren with another on the way; numerous nieces and nephews.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents Claude Jennings and Winona; grandparents; sons Lonnie Dee Jennings, Sean Derrick Holmes and Lance Eric Holmes.
